Work Plan

Executive Committee

Goal: Provide effective, efficient governance of the Chamber

Objectives:

  • Conduct onboarding process for newly elected board members
  • Review/amend bylaws
  • Appoint nominating committee
  • Lead annual review of executive director

Finance

Goal: To secure the Chamber’s financial stability and growth

Objectives:

  • Establish and populate the committee with qualified volunteers
  • Recommend investment options for reserve funds
  • Develop a plan to build a reserve fund equal to six months operating expenses
  • Develop a 3- and 5-year financial forecast
  • Recommend a charitable giving policy
  • Develop compensation plan to include cost of living and benefits competitive within industry trends
  • Establish 2017 operating budget
  • Identify additional earned income opportunities
  • Advise on Chairman’s Circle benefits
  • Advise on membership dues rates

Marketing

Goal: Ensure high visibility and consistent, professional branding of the Chamber

Objectives:

  • Launch community mobile app and promote its use
  • Provide promotional support to special events and fundraising committees
  • Oversee a membership benefits focused website
  • Assist director in creating a job description for a contracted or part-time marketing position
  • Assist director in developing relationships with local media

Small Business Development

Goal: Ensure small business success

Objectives:

  • Establish and populate the committee
  • Develop a plan that details strategies for three aspects of small business development: 1. Retention and growth of existing businesses, 2. Entrepreneurship, and 3. Service to new prospects
  • Work with SBTDC to assess the needs of our existing small businesses
  • Host a focus group discussion with minority and ethnic owned businesses to learn their specific needs
  • Research and propose a business incubator operating model
  • Explore options for facilities suitable for accommodating an incubator
  • Define the parameters of a partnership with the BRG (Business Resource Group)
  • Recruit qualified volunteer business mentors
  • Conduct commercial real estate bus tour
  • Present Business Expo
  • Complete revisions to the guide for new businesses

Innovate Fuquay-Varina

Goal:  Develop a thriving entrepreneurial culture

Objectives:

  • Secure corporate sponsorship of the IFV program
  • Increase number of new and start-up businesses that participate in “launch weekend”
  • Offer quality educational and training opportunities leading up to launch weekend
  • Provide ongoing support to participants after launch weekend
  • Increase awareness of the program
  • Make demonstrated progress toward establishing a micro angel fund

Senior Services Council

Goal:  Ensure that businesses serving senior populations are informed of trends, concerns and best practices for ethical operations

Objectives:

  • Present Senior Services Expo

Membership Services

Goal:  Maintain 85% retention rate of engaged members

Objectives:

  • Develop a relationship management plan
  • Offer programs and services that offer a high rate of return on member’s investment
  • Develop a system for annual renewal of members on the monthly payment plan
  • Grow the affinity partner program
  • Research opportunities to meet the unique needs of home based businesses
  • Plan annual membership appreciation and awards to recognize business achievement
  • Recruit new members

Young Professionals Network

Goal:  Engage young demographics (ages 21 – 39) to ensure the future viability of the F-V Chamber

Objectives:

  • Host social events for young professionals to spark networking
  • Drive community engagement with 1 or 2 community service programs each year
  • Empower YPN to assist with planning and implementation of the Innovate F-V program
  • Implement mentor/buddy system to grow attendance of young professionals at Chamber events
  • Identify opportunities for YP’s to serve on YPN and chamber committees

Public Affairs

Governmental Affairs

Goal:  Lend a voice to elected officials issues that impact our membership and the business community, while injecting the vigor, purpose and energy that drives our town and its business partners to be a dash more.

Objectives:

  • Keep members informed of legislative issues that impact their business
  • Host candidate forums for the community and encourage voter registration
  • Address the 3 top concerns identified in a May 2016 survey of the membership:  traffic, education, and crime

Education Council

Goal: Serve as a clearinghouse of information regarding educational issues and facilitate a vital relationship between local schools and businesses.

Objectives:

  • Represent Fuquay-Varina’s concerns and needs through active participation with the Wake Education Partnership
  • Implement quarterly education award in conjunction with Business After Hours
  • Maintain exchange of information between businesses and local schools at Business Alliance meetings
  • Encourage increased business and community support of local schools
  • Support F-V High School FBLA with internships, mentoring and job shadowing opportunities
  • Coordinate with Governmental Affairs committee on advocacy efforts

Community Development

Goal: Take a leadership role in bringing the community together to solve problems and develop opportunities to plan for the future

Objectives:

  • Recruit and engage volunteers
  • Facilitate partnerships with nonprofit, civic and community organizations

Leadership Fuquay-Varina

Goal: Provide education and training for future community leaders

Objectives:

  • Track and report demonstrated success of Leadership graduates
  • Seek opportunities for graduates to become involved in government, civic, nonprofit and other entities
  • Network with leadership programs at other chamber’s to ensure vitality and innovation within the F-V program

Special Events

Goal:  Use special events that highlight Fuquay-Varina as a great place to live and do business as a way to generate non dues revenue.

Objectives:

  • Plan and produce profitable events that have value for Chamber members and the community including Run The Quay, Savor Fuquay-Varina and the Christmas Parade.
  • Negotiate with the producers of the Freedom Balloon Festival to operate the Merchant Village component
